Pit stop in Orvieto

To kick off the second leg of our March adventures, Becky, her parents and I packed up the tiny rental car and drove down to Rome.  In Italy - and a lot of other countries in Europe - they drive really small cars.  Our car was a Fiat Panda, as you can see in the video below.

On our way south, we stopped at a small town in the Umbria region called Orvieto.  Orvieto is perched atop a huge rock.  There were some awesome views from up there!

Since the town is so small, it didn't take long for us to walk around and see the sites.  The most impressive was the view from the top, but Orvieto also has a famous Duomo (well, famous for the region anyway).  A Duomo is a big dome that many of the churches in Italy have.  We had lunch at a small family-owned restaurant right next to the Duomo.  The owners were so nice they gave us a home-made artichoke-pesto pasta and let us go down to see their wine cellar!  The wine cellar was built by the current owner's grandfather over 50 years ago and still had some of the original wines from that time!  It was really dusty down there, but what a cool experience!
Before too long, we had to get back on the road so we could get to our Roman hotel before they closed the doors on us.  Here's one more picture for the cat lovers out there (especially Shae and Mrs. Pizzala!).  We saw this kitty outside of one of the little shops in town on our way back to the car.  She seemed more interested in the pigeons across the street than she did in us, but she let us pet her and that's all that counts, right?
Onward to Rome!
