Our German friends, Nadine and Simon, came to Italy this week to visit us. While they were here, we traveled all over Tuscany to many places I've mentioned from previous adventures. But there was this one special place that we stopped at one afternoon I thought I should tell you about. That place is Parma! No, not Parma, Michigan - Parma, Italy! Like Parma, Michigan, it is a small town out in the middle of nowhere, although it isn't quite as small. Did you know that Parmesan cheese comes from Parma? Well you do now! Also, the Parma prosciutto (which is like very thin cured ham) is also very famous.
We had a quick lunch at a small restaurant and did a little walking around town to see what there was to do. Unfortunately, we were there on a Sunday afternoon so most of the shops were closed. We did see some pretty nifty buildings like this baptistry below.
Parma is a very colorful city. The buildings aren't quite as colorful as the ones we saw in Cinque Terre a few weeks ago, but there was a treat around every corner (and I'm not just talking about all of the gelato shops!).
The kids from the local schools even worked together to create a huge mural in one of the old downtown areas. If you look closely, you can see me hanging out with their works of art.
Here I am!
That's it for Parma - short and sweet! Until next time, this is Flat Stanley saying, "Ciao amici!"
Hi Flat Stanley, Tell Justin and Becky that we will see them soon. Also tell Justin that I did not get his last E mail that he sent. Ask him to send it again to pizzala4@aol.com. Thanks Flat Stanley. I am looking forward to seeing you also. Love Grandma Pizzala
