Lucca: The land of comics

Tuscan Town Trotter: Part 2
We are quickly coming to the end of our Italian adventures, amici.  So in order to get in the most Tuscany in the shortest amount of time, we have been hopping on weekend trains to neighboring towns.  These quick little day trips will be documented as part of the short Tuscan Town Trotter series.  Enjoy!

Let's see who the readers are in Mrs. Simpson's class...well I know Ashtin and Emily do for sure and I'm sure there are others too.  Reading is fun - especially when you are reading comics!  When we arrived in Lucca, we found out that they were having an Italian comics festival - WOOHOO!  The first thing we did was walk through a small comics exhibit and you'll never guess where it was - inside the walls of the city - and not inside the walls like surrounded by walls, but actually inside the stone and mortar walls!  How cool is that?

There were comic strips and drawings along the walls and a few life-sized characters standing around.  One of the comic characters was even nice enough to let me have my picture taken with him.

Comics aren't all that Lucca has to offer, though. There are plenty of medieval buildings around there like this tower.

And this old church.

As you can see below, there weren't very many people wandering around while we were there.  This picture is from the main square, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, which was an amphitheater during the early days of the city (over 2,000 years ago!).

This cat was taking a lazy Saturday nap on the sleepy Luccan streets.

This botanical garden was full of blooming flowers, towering trees, prickly cacti and algae-covered ponds.

In all, a nice way to spend the day!
